Position: Dementia Support Worker 
Location: Cardiff, Wales 
Contract type: Part time, Fixed Term - 12 months (maternity cover) 
Hours: 21 per week 
Salary: £12,207 acutal per annum

About the role: 

As a Dementia Support Worker you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide support to people with dementia that are under the age of 65. Additionally, you will also offer guidance and information to their carers and family members. Working closely with the Young Onset Team based in Llandough, you will assist those affected by dementia to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and put them in more control of their lives. As the service is unique to each service user, your guidance will be based upon their personal circumstances and support needs. 

You will offer assistance and direction to your clients in a variety of ways, whether at the client's own home, at service offices, in group settings or at other locations. Support can be provided either by face to face, phone, letter or email. You will also assist service users to access other services through signposting and referrals. You will support with the facilitation of peer support groups and other group activities and occasionally these will take place during the evening time 

About you: 

We are looking for an individual who possesses NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) with an understanding of dementia, specifically in relation to the needs of those under the age of 65 that are living with dementia. Your ability to assess client needs along with the understanding of the need for client confidentially is essential to providing a valuable and worthwhile service. 

Previous experience of providing person-centred, non-judgmental, empathetic and practical support is vital. We are looking for a committed, dynamic individual with a proven record of accuracy and attention to detail. To be successful in this role you will possess strong communication skills as well as strong organisational and time management skills in order to manage your caseload of clients effectively. This role involves regular use of IT packages, therefore a good standard of IT would be desirable.
