Community Support Worker

Hours: Full-time (including regular Saturday working)
Reports To: Community Services Programme Manager 
Location: Dalston, London
Salary: £25,000 
Closing date: 9am on Monday 19 November 2018

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and committed youth worker with a particular interest in sport and/or creative activities to join their  Community Services team, to facilitate a range of projects for vision impaired children and young people to improve their overall wellbeing. This will include (but is not restricted to):
 
•    Planning and facilitating regular activities for groups of vision impaired young people, including training sessions, outings and user led planning meetings such as Health and Wellbeing Clubs and Social Independence groups
•    Supporting vision impaired young people with goal setting and achieving outcomes
•    Helping to recruit young blind and partially sighted young people who might benefit from the project, and managing referrals.
•    Encouraging participation in mainstream leisure and recreational activities  

Knowledge of the needs of, and challenges faced by, disabled children and young people is essential, as is a commitment to the principles of safeguarding, equal opportunities, and health and safety.  You will be able to manage your own time and provide support and guidance to others, including volunteers and colleagues.

The ideal candidate will come from a Youth Work, Sports, Rehabilitation, Social Work Community Health or Education background, with a minimum qualification at NVQ Level 3, or equivalent, in a related field, or relevant experience. 

Due to the nature of the Society’s work, the successful candidate will also be required to hold a current and acceptable enhanced DBS check, or be willing to undertake one.

Interviews are scheduled to be held on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 November 2018.
