JOB DESCRIPTION

School Aid (SA) is a registered charity with over 20 years’ experience dedicated to enhancing education and promoting literacy for children in disadvantaged schools in Africa. We redistribute  high quality recycled educational materials, mainly books, refurbish school libraries, train and mentor library assistants and run  literacy focused activities,  including reading clubs in disadvantaged communities in South Africa , Tanzania, Lesotho and Malawi. 

School Aid UK CIO is a registered charity established in 1998, with a sister organisation in South Africa, registered in 2009.  

REPORTS TO: You will report to the General Manager

LIAISES WITH: You will keep Chairman of Trustees, informed, as necessary, of any matters of particular relevance to the Chairman. You will also work closely with the Chair of Fundraising Committee and the PR &Marketing Manager, and keep them informed of all fundraising & development activities, as necessary.

LOCATION: Home based if preferred. Otherwise at School Aid offices, Hammer and Harp Farm, Wapseys Lane, Hedgerley Green, Buckinghamshire SL2 3XJ.

JOB SUMMARY: To assist School Aid raise funds & achieve budgeted targets agreed by Trustees. The income from fundraising should come from grant-making trusts, corporations, individuals & major donors.

KEY TASKS:

Main Responsibilities 

o To build on existing relationships with trusts and identify new funding opportunities by :

- Researching new funding opportunities, being aware of trends in giving, and having good knowledge of application requirements.

- Writing compelling funding applications and well developed budgets, including liaising with Trustees and General Manager as necessary.

- Ensuring that grant reports are provided to donors in a timely manner.

- Seeking every opportunity to cultivate relationships with new & existing funders.

o To continue stewardship of existing donors and manage the implementation of individual-giving and major-donor initiatives.

o Help to identify and approach corporate and statutory funders.

o To prepare, towards the end of each year, a strategic fundraising plan for the following 12-18 months including & identifying key priorities. 

o To achieve income against agreed set targets

Other Responsibilities

o Work with the fundraising committee to plan and execute major events, and support community committee fundraising activities.

o Keep up to date records on the charity’s customer relationship management system.

o Identify and propose new avenues of funding including via social media and through digital platforms.

o Prepare papers for & organise and attend fundraising committee meetings and minute activity. 

o Provide quarterly fundraising reports to Trustees, and attend other School Aid meetings as required.

o Ensure all donations from trusts and foundations are entered on the database, and that the School Aid Finance Controller / Treasurer is informed of any restricted donations or specific actions requiring attention.
