The Trust is a not-for-profit charity that is passionate about the heritage of Derbyshire. Although the Trust was formed in 1974, it is currently relaunching itself. A new Board are looking to raise the Trust’s profile, raise money and attract new members. The successful applicant will be involved in all three areas.

The Trust is looking for someone to manage its office and its website, organise events and marketing activity, and work with Board members. Applicants must therefore have previous experience in these areas, and be good communicators.

Much of the work can be done at the post holder’s home. But there may be a possibility of working from an office in Wirksworth.

Role

Executive officer, Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust

Main purpose

To be initially the Trust’s only paid member of staff.

Key tasks

1 supporting the Trust’s aim of raising £1m

2 assist with organising fundraising and educational events

3 manage the Trust’s office

4 and its website

Key results

1 A PA service to the chair of the Trust who will lead large scale fundraising

2 Effective organisation of events

3  A functioning and efficient office that support the Trust’s activities

4  An up to date and developing website that meets users’ needs

Responsible for…

While the post will not be responsible for any staff, it will be responsible for coordinating the activities of volunteers and experts.

Reports to

The chairman and finance director of the Trust. There will also be a need to work with other board members, volunteers and experts.

Hours

Likely to be part time, 15-25 hours average a week, spread over a year. So highly flexible depending on circumstances.

Based at

Most of the work can be done at the post holder’s home. But there will be a need to travel to meetings in the county. There may be the possibility of working from an office in Wirksworth.

Pay

Flexible, depending on experience and hours, but in the region £25-35K pa pro rata.

Contract

The post will initially be for a 12 month period, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

Experience and skills are likely to be more important that formal qualifications.

Essential skills

1 A proficient user of modern office IT.

2 High grade organisational skills

3 Ability to communicate verbally direct, on the phone and in writing

4  Ability to research on the internet

1 web site management

Desirable knowledge

2 marketing techniques

3 Sufficient knowledge of IT to manage a growing document archive

Essential previous experience

1 experience of working in a modern office

2 organisation of marketing activity and events

Experience required

As above, experience in three areas is essential and desirable for the other three.

Personal qualities

The holder needs to be self-motivating, able to get on easily with a variety of people, and be able to identify with the aims of the Trust.
