The Cathedral has an international reputation and is the recipient of several Tourism Excellence Awards. Known as England's most poetic Cathedral, Wells has gained an enviable reputation for its lovingly maintained Gothic architecture, its world class music, and its Ministry of Welcome to some 270,000 visitors each year as well as the 150,000 people, drawn from local, national and international audiences, who come to the Cathedral for services, concerts, lectures and a wide range of other special events and activities.

Wells Cathedral is embarking on an exciting and ambitious phase of development to ensure its extraordinarily beautiful buildings, world-class choral music, stunning grounds and gardens provide the very best facilities, environment and resources for who visit. We have an exciting pipeline of capital and revenue building, education and conservation campaigns and we are now looking for an experienced major donor fundraising professional to establish a well-resourced Development Office to develop the income that allows us to achieve our exciting ambitions. Working closely with colleagues, the community and supporters, the Director of Development will establish a visionary strategy, the key messages and the tactical plans for growing income to achieve these enticing projects. He or she will lead on our heritage, educational and conservation campaigns to ensure Wells Cathedral's history is secured for generations to come.

We are looking for a collegiate, passionate and professional fundraising leader, with a proven track record of growing income from philanthropists, trusts and foundations. A strategic thinker who is able to operate hands-on when needed, you will be adept at developing relationships with major donors as well as with the Chapter and our supporters at all levels. You will be motivated by the many fantastic opportunities to raise previously un-tapped income for the Cathedral and the opportunity to establish and lead a successful Development office. We are open to candidates of all faiths and none, who can empathise with the Cathedral's many supporters.
