Job Details

A well-known charity is looking for a Legacy Officer to join their Supporter Relations Team to manage a caseload of pecuniary and residuary legacy estates. The successful candidate will manage the administration of these estates and to ensure the charities receives its optimum entitlement in a timely manner. You would need to provide an advisory service in respect of Legacy Administration and ensure the charities and its Trustees are properly protected in law.

Key responsibilities
-To effectively and proactively manage administration of all legacies either left to the charity or for which the charity might apply.
-To maintain technical, legal and taxation standards, ensuring that the charity receives its full entitlement from every estate.
-To fulfil our Executorship duties in a sensitive manner and ensuring they are dealt with promptly and in accordance with legal requirements.
-To correspond with solicitors, relatives and executors on all matters relating to estate administration including the requesting of a copy of Wills, Schedules of Assets & -Liabilities; Trust and Estate accounts and tax deduction certificates
-To liaise with co-beneficiaries of an Estate especially where queries or disputes arise to produce a cost effective and satisfactory solution.
-To be responsible for the overall conduct of contentious probate cases on behalf of the charity
-To deal with all legal queries
To ensure that all financial information is recorded and reported on effectively and that 'cash' and 'bank' batches are dealt with promptly
-To work with members of the Legacy marketing team to provide them with sufficient legacy stories and information so that legacy promotion can be dealt with effectively

Skills and experience required:
-Strong background in legacy administration and Substantial experience as a Charity Legacy Officer or equivalent legal (probate) position.
-High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-High degree of financial numeracy, including the ability to manipulate spreadsheets and produce financial reports
-Ability to understand and operate legacy administration and fundraising databases
-Institute of Legacy Management certification or appropriate alternative qualification such as intermediate level of Society Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) or working towards this
-Membership of ILM
-Knowledge of legal and technical issues as they affect charity legacy administration
