Towcester / Ampthill

£30,188 plus ECU £1670 per annum

1 permanent post

1 Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

Full time 36.5 hours per week

Our client is more than just a financially strong Housing Association, they are making an impact on the housing crisis, supporting sustainable communities and providing life-long homes for their customers.  They provide additional, critical services to support the most vulnerable but they also build shared ownership and outright sales for those who want to get on the property ladder.

Social values are what drives them and they don’t stop there because what they do matters. They are passionate about communities and are committed to being a Learning Organisation, developing talent to deliver on service goals and supporting the next generations into a career in housing.

They are currently looking for a self motivated individual to join the team as a Welfare Benefits Advisor.  This post provides welfare benefits advice to tenants with the aim of maximising income and reducing rent arrears.  The role is based at either Towcester or Ampthill but you will need to be flexible to work at the different offices to meet business demands. They usually conduct advice sessions with tenants in their own homes.

You will be an expert on welfare and disability benefits including recent changes to legislation.  You will be available to assist customers in preparing for benefit reviews, carrying out calculations, making claims and negotiating with other parties.  You will also be expected to attend appeal and review panels as required.

The successful candidate will already have in-depth knowledge of welfare benefits including the ability to understand and interpret legislation and case law.  You will have a genuine commitment to providing excellent customer service and will have the knowledge to provide sound advice regarding welfare benefit entitlements.

Possessing strong negotiation and advocacy skills, you must be able to manage a diverse caseload, meet targets and demonstrate a clear understanding of social trends and political issues affecting social housing tenants.

Our client is striving to offer an agile working environment for all their roles, where high-performing staff can expect a competitive reward package and are offered learning and personal development opportunities to compliment a balanced and healthy lifestyle. If you are like-minded in wanting to help shape the future of housing through the delivery of quality services to customers, great at your job and with a ‘can-do’ attitude, they want to hear from you.
