Citizens Advice is recruiting a Senior Policy Researcher to join our Energy Networks and Systems team. A critical part of our work is making sure essential markets are working well for consumers, particularly those in vulnerable situations.  We are looking for exceptional candidates who can help us shine a light on the costs and performance of the entire energy system, with a central aim of driving down consumers’ bills.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on one of the biggest issues facing people across the UK today - within a dynamic organisation with a relentless focus on fixing the underlying causes of people’s problems.

Our organisation is unique. From 2,700 locations, we directly help 2.7 million people to solve their problems each year. Through these interactions, we see first-hand, and in real time, the problems faced by people across England and Wales. Our amazing data allows us to spot emerging issues quickly, often even before government. This makes us uniquely placed to develop effective solutions and deliver impactful change.

You’ll be joining a team that gets to the heart of complex challenges facing energy networks and the energy system at a time of profound change.  As a senior member of the team you will lead on key policy areas, designing and delivering major research and influencing projects from start to finish, while supporting junior members of the team to reach their potential. This role will lead the team’s work to scrutinise and engage with electricity distribution networks,  influencing critical negotiations on how we pay for these in future building on our  “Energy Consumers’ Missing Billions” report.

Our strong, respected brand means that you will have unique opportunities to engage directly with the people and organisations who have the power to make the changes we want to see - from parliamentarians and the civil service to regulators and industry. You will have a strong track record of designing and delivering influential policy research projects. For these roles we particularly welcome applications from people with strong analytical skills (such as economics or other quantitative social sciences), or a background in a regulated market (such as energy, finance or water).

Alongside strong research and analytical skills, you will have the drive and ability to turn our research into influential policy outputs which make a compelling case for change and work with our world-class campaigns and public affairs teams to make these changes happen.

Citizens Advice values diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people, as they are currently under represented in our workforce.

Closing Date: 2 November 2018
Interviews: Week commencing 12th November 2018
