About the Project
HeadStart, is an adolescent innovative early mental health service in Newham. They are committed to the delivery of evidence based approaches which support 10-16 year olds with early mental health difficulties. They deliver a range of group based and 1-1 resilience building interventions across primary and secondary schools and support partners to deliver interventions in the community. Additionally they provide online counselling and provide support for the parents and teachers of these young people.
As they move into the third year of programme delivery, their focus is on maximising and demonstrating the impact of all of their work.
About the job
This is an exciting and demanding opportunity to lead, manage and develop a high functioning team of youth practitioners who are working across Newham's primary and secondary schools.
This team of 8 youth practitioners are providing group and 1-1 support for 10-16 year olds with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The team principally facilitates group based interventions (a peer mentoring programme, a social action programme and a resilience behaviour change programme) in 38 primary schools and 14 secondary schools across the borough. The team also provide drop in 1-1 support to young people in schools, support young people to access community based interventions and in the school holidays work alongside community youth provision.
As a key member of a multi-disciplinary team you would have access to significant learning and growth opportunities.
About you
You will be passionate about improving life chances for vulnerable young people and set high standards for yourself and others. You will be a strong leader able to effectively lead and support a team of front line practitioners working across schools.
You will have experience of managing one or more of the following types of staff working in a school setting- youth workers, pastoral support staff or equivalent. You will be very organised and have a real attention to detail. You will be comfortable analysing and using performance data to drive and support service communication.
You will be comfortable working alongside other managers in the service and the wider community to deliver joint up provision.
Additional information
Successful candidates will need to be able to start by beginning of January. Contracts will be offered initially on a 2 year fixed term basis with the opportunity to be extended following satisfactory performance.
