Head of Private Sector Policy and Advocacy

Circa £50,000 per annum

Maternity cover; 9 -12 months

This is an exciting opportunity to lead Unicef UK’s policy work on Child Rights and Business.

Unicef ensures more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. We get things done. And we’re not going to stop until the world is a safe place for all our children.

The Children’s Rights and Business Unit is a pioneering programme at Unicef UK, comprised of a team of human rights and ethical business specialists working across the partnerships and advocacy departments. Our aim is to influence business policy and practice to better respect and support the rights of children. We do this through direct public policy change, direct business partnership and multi-stakeholder engagement. As Head of Private Sector Policy and Advocacy, you will co-lead the Child Rights and Business Unit.

This is an exciting time to join us. Over the period of this maternity cover, your work will focus on delivering research engaging directly with children in the UK on issues relating to children’s rights and business and you will help us translate findings from an extensive research and analysis process into strategy, plans and objectives for the next three to five years. You will also have the opportunity to contribute strategically to organisation-wide plans related to the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.

To succeed, you will have a background in influencing responsible business behaviour and you will have experience of developing strong policy positions on business and human or child rights or on socially responsible business practices. You will have a good knowledge of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights as well as Children’s Rights and Business Principles and/or corporate sustainability. We are looking for a confident, diplomatic communicator, able to build a network of external contacts to maximise Unicef UK’s capacity to influence change.

Act now and visit www.unicef.org.uk/jobs to apply online.

Closing date: 5pm, Friday 19 October 2018.

Interview date: Tuesday 30 October 2018.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of people, respecting and drawing on different perspectives, skills, experience and knowledge.

The successful candidate will be required to apply for a criminal records check. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances of your offences.

We only accept online applications as this saves us money, making more funds available for us to help ensure children’s rights. CVs will not be accepted.

If you require support in completing the online form or an application form in an alternative format, please contact Supporter Care on 0300 330 5580 during office hours.

If you do not hear from us within 14 days of the closing date, please assume your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. Please note that we only provide feedback to shortlisted candidates.
