Head of Internal Communications and Engagement– The Role

There’s never been a more important time to join the fight for our world.  With incredible species disappearing at an alarming rate, we must be the generation to halt the decline of iconic habitats and species and to secure protection for the natural world we all depend on, before it is too late.

This is a critical role to help us succeed in the fight for nature. We have a new, ambitious strategy to 2030 and are looking for a dynamic individual to equip, enable and inspire our colleagues in its delivery. The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering an engaging and successful internal communications strategy for a diverse audience of colleagues based across the UK.

The approach that the post holder will implement and measure with their team will ensure the continued development of channels and messaging. In turn, they will provide mechanisms to celebrate successes, bring clarity and transparency to changes, and facilitate two-way engagement, so that internal audiences can share their stories, be actively consulted on change projects and have reasons to feel proud about working for WWF-UK.

Working closely with the Head of Network Communications and other internal communication leads across the global organisation you will maximise opportunities for best practice sharing and knowledge transfer across WWF internationally in response to audience and leadership needs and in line with sector trends and innovation.  You will have responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of all internal communications and information management activities designed to inspire, inform and involve colleagues and ensure air-traffic control. You will lead and develop internal communication and engagement plans and approaches for both organisation-wide and bespoke projects and events, in support of the ongoing delivery of WWF-UK’s strategic goals to 2020. In collaboration with the Media team and other units, you will ensure that the internal communications and engagement team is ready to manage a crisis or incident, including out of hours.

Head of Internal Communications and Engagement– Requirements

Educated to degree level in communications, internal communications or a relevant field, or CIPR qualified (or equivalent) the successful candidate must have significant experience working in internal communications or a similar discipline (e.g. organisational development or marketing). Significant experience leading teams of people, nurturing talent and managing up to senior colleagues, including at CEO level is vital. A natural relationship builder – quick to establish, nurture and manage complex stakeholder relationships and bring colleagues and teams together to achieve results and manage multiple stakeholders’ expectations  and multiple deadlines skilfully. You will be confident presenter and facilitator, self-motivated, results-driven and target orientated. You will also be an exceptional organiser, able to juggle multiple priorities and excellent with budgets. Experience using SharePoint and similar content management systems will be an advantage as would a working knowledge of video editing software.

The Head of Internal Communications and Engagement will have a proven track record of operating and advising at a senior level, up to Executive Group, while being willing to roll up their sleeves to manage tactical day-to-day delivery too. To develop, deliver and measure the impact of a creative, responsive and tailored internal communications strategy, which fosters two-way engagement and collaboration.
