Deputy Service Manager (Charity Refuge Service) 

Our client opened the world’s first safe house for women and children fleeing domestic violence in Chiswick, West London in 1971. Since then the charity has grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic violence services. On any given day, its national network of services supports over 6,000 women and children. Committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety, our client aims to empower women and children rebuild their lives, free from violence and fear. 

Position: Deputy Service Manager
Location: Lewisham, London 
Job type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week 
Salary: £32,891 to £34,677 per annum

About the role: 

The Deputy Manager will contribute to the management of our client services, in line with our client’s policies and procedures and quality management system. 

The post holder will provide line management and support to staff. This will include providing supervision on complex casework issues such as child protection, overseeing operational emergencies and ensuring high standards of housing management. 

Working closely with the services manager to ensure that contractual and other funding requirements are met fully and that our client’s high-quality standards are maintained, the role may involve visiting potential sites and contributing to the establishment of new services in conjunction with the development team. 

The job involves working closely with staff that supports abused women and their children in crisis using their services. As a member of the management team, the post holder will be required to participate in an out-of-hours management service. 

About You: 

Proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support, and of managing case work. In addition you will have experience of managing and motivating staff, have a good knowledge of domestic violence issues and experience of providing support to women by working in either a women’s refuge or residential setting. 

Proven experience of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults along with experience of supervising a team is essential. A recognised social work, housing or management qualification would be desirable.
