The Finance Business Analyst is a key role at the heart of this agile and entrepreneurial museum, compiling financial information for management accounts, new commercial initiatives and board reports. Join our collaborate and creative team on London’s inside track.

Job Purpose:

As the Finance Business Analyst, you will be responsible for delivering high quality financial and commercial analysis, performance information, budgets, forecasts and management accounting information which will be used to support decision making, funding bids and stakeholder reporting requirements for the London Transport Museum (LTM). 

This will enable the LTM to maintain overall financial stability and make commercially sound business decisions. 

You will deputise for the Assistant Director: Business & Performance as and when required and provide cover for Finance & Assurance Manager as and when needed. 

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Lead the LTM’s business planning, budgeting and forecasting processes ensuring Operations of a robust and multi-year business planning process for the Museum and Trading company including income, operating costs, capital expenditure, charitable reserves, restricted funds and non-financial performance information measures; 
  • Provide financial advice and coaching to LRM staff/manager and user of reports; ensure information is disseminated and owned by accountable budget holders; 
  • Ensure LTM’s account and other financial systems accurately reflect the progress of funded projects and are compliant with SORP and funding conditions; 
  • Provide whole life support for charitable fund-raising activity, including: support for bids, full cost recovery calculations, cost monitoring and allocation, coordination and collation of relevant financial and non-financial information, preparation of reports, and adherence to restricted fund conditions. 
  • Create/operate appraisal methodologies to assess case for new income generating projects. Provide high quality financial and commercial analysis of commercial and charitable activity, including income and expenditure for the Museum to help drive financial decision on funding bids, budgets and commercial aspects for LTM.
  • Act as a key business partner through regular contact with budget holder and other stakeholders. 
  • Prepare and submit information to sector support / benchmarking organisations (e.g. ALVA), and analyse information received. 

Skills: 

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work without supervision; 
  • Microsoft Excel to advanced level; 
  • Excellent financial systems skills including ERP Finance systems such as SAP, Business Warehousing/Reporting software, retail/EPOS systems, etc. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; 
  • Good analytical skill; 
  • Good planning skills; working with and to strict deadlines. 

Knowledge: 

  • Good understanding of analytical techniques, business case methodologies and commercial project appraisals; 
  • Understanding of the funding landscape for cultural organisations; 
  • Qualified to CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting level (or other CCAB equivalent), with strong demonstrable technical knowledge proved through relevant experience; 
  • Good understand of charity accounting and SORP requirements. 

Experience: 

  • Good recent experience of budgeting and forecasting for costs, income and contribution; 
  • Experience of the reporting and interpretation of financial, commercial and other performance information to managers and directors; 
  • Experience of dealing with budget holders at operation, middle management, and senior management levels; 
  • Experience of preparing business cases and investment appraisals; 
  • Experience of preparing funding bids (desired); 
  • Experience of commercial business analysis (desired).
