Description

  • Act as first point of contact for media enquiries, ensuring a prompt and professional response
  • Monitor key media to identify opportunities for positive coverage and any negative coverage requiring a response
  • Ensure a prompt and effective media relations response to relevant news
  • Develop strong relationships with key journalists to facilitate strong coverage
  • Gather stories and background information as required to support media relations needs including writing up case studies and arranging interviews
  • Research and write press releases, media briefings, promotional literature, publication articles and position statements as required
  • Contribute to the promotion of multi-channel media coverage
  • Organise press conferences, receptions and other media relations events as required
  • Assist the digital team with sharing social media content in line with the current media agenda
  • Provide media advice/support to all departments in line with the overall strategy and priorities of the organisation
  • Assist as required with developing communications resources such as presentations, speeches and key messages
  • Writing and distributing high quality media materials including press releases, interview briefings and statements
  • Profile

    Essential

    • Previous experience working in a press team environment and working with national media
    • Proven experience of producing high quality communications for media contacts and external stakeholders
    • Confident communicator with excellent writing and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent journalistic skills - proactively identifying, developing and pitching stories and features to secure and widespread media coverage
    • Creative approach with a proactive attitude to finding and telling compelling stories
    • Strong networking and relationship building skills with ability to engage with journalists and internal and external stakeholders of all levels
    • Excellent organisational and planning skills and ability to work in a high pressure environment
    • Self-motivated and ability to use initiative, but also a strong team player

    Desirable

    • Previous experience working within the charity sector

    Job Offer

    • Salary of between £25,000 and £27,000 commensurate with experience
