Designability is a charity transforming the lives of disabled people

Everything we design and develop is in response to the needs of people living with disabilities and for 50 years, Designability has created products that increase dignity, confidence and independence.

Formerly known as Bath Institute of Medical Engineering, Designability is an independent charity first set-up by famous inventor and engineer, Bevan Horstmann, and local consultant surgeon, Kenneth Lloyd-Williams.

Exciting times lie ahead as we launch our 50th Anniversary Appeal, which will see us move to new purpose built premises, which will remain within easy reach of Bath to allow our continued close collaboration with our Trustees and academic partners at the University of Bath and University of the West of England.

A large part of our work is only made possible by the support of individual and organisational donors. Each year we need to raise around £750k from voluntary sources.

We are seeking a talented entrepreneurial Chief Executive who will realise the significant opportunities that exist for both increased voluntary support as well as extending the potential of our commercial trading through a social enterprise model.

Our new Chief Executive will need to bring all the leadership and relationship development skills required to engage people in this endeavour.

Designability is an organisation that is all about people and relationships and our new Chief Executive will need to embody our values, which characterise how we work and that have evolved as a result of our rich and successful heritage.

Quite simply, the more we are able to do as an organisation, the more we will be able to bring measurable benefit to the lives of children and adults living with a disability.
