The British School at Rome (BSR) — the largest of the British International Research Institutes — is a centre of interdisciplinary research excellence in the Mediterranean supporting the full range of arts, humanities and social sciences. It creates an environment for work of international standing and impact from Britain and the Commonwealth, and a bridge into the intellectual and cultural heart of Rome and Italy. The BSR’s current Strategic Plan sets out three objectives: 1. Building on the BSR’s research excellence; 2. Developing relationships with BSR alumni and members; 3. Raising the profile of the BSR.

The BSR maintains an administrative headquarters in London, dealing primarily with awards administration, development, governance, membership, alumni relations, publications and UK events. However, members of staff in our London office work very closely with colleagues in Rome. The BSR fundraising team works in partnership with Gifted Philanthropy, including on our Legacy Campaign and preparations for a Major Capital Campaign.

We are seeking to appoint a self-motivated and efficient person to play a significant role in assisting with development activities, as well as providing general administrative support. This position will be suitable for those looking to develop their career potential in development and/or academic administration.

This is a full-time post (36.5 hours per week), based in the BSR’s UK office, at the British Academy, 10–11 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH. The appointment is fixed term, for a period of one year.
