Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health care to a culturally and socially diverse population of over a million people living in Birmingham and Solihull.  We also provide some specialist services to people who live further afield.  We have an income of over £230 million, making us one of the largest mental health foundation trusts in the country.

We have over 4000 dedicated staff who are continually working to help people get better and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness.  We operate from over 50 sites in a variety of settings, from community based mental health teams through to acute wards and day centres. Recognised nationally as an innovative organisation, we have a strong reputation for our research and for building ground-breaking partnerships with other providers and stakeholders.  We are focused on ensuring our compassionate and committed staff are supported as we face unprecedented pressures on the services we provide. Despite a challenging economic environment coupled with rising demand our staff have maintained a robust operational position.

Our current Chief Executive, John Short is retiring next Spring after 6 successful years at the helm.  We are therefore seeking an inspirational leader and visionary leader to join our strong and experienced Board as our new Chief Executive. We value the diversity of the population we serve and of our own staff; applications from candidates who would enhance the diversity of the board itself would be very welcome. A proven leader of complex services, you will take us on the next phase of our evolution, continuing our excellent track record of developing new models of care delivery and of keeping our service users and their carers at the centre of all our strategic decisions.

A visible leader with a collaborative style, you will be skilled in navigating a complex and dynamic external environment as well bringing a strong track record in empowering staff to deliver continuous quality improvement.  This role will be challenging as well as hugely rewarding; it will take resilience and courage and in return it will offer you the opportunity to further develop our national and international profile and improve the quality of mental health services for our populations now and in the future.

To find out more please click on the apply button and call our partners at GatenbySanderson; Emma Pickup, Melanie Shearer or James Canning on 020 7426 3985.

Closing date: Monday 8 October

Stakeholder engagement and final interviews: Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 November.
