This is a newly re-imagined role for a highly strategic, innovative senior manager who can bring the hands-on approach that we need. While the charity has been in existence since 1913 it has recently been revitalised and to this end envisage the next chapter of our development to be like a ‘start-up’.

The Medical Research Foundation is an independent charitable foundation. Formed by the Medical Research Council, it grows and nurtures people and ideas wherever it  sees research opportunities with great potential. Funding research is its sole purpose. In 2016/17 it funded 55 new research projects and researchers, and invested £4.2m in new research that will improve human health.

To be successful in this role you are likely to be able to demonstrate a track record in fundraising from a variety of income streams, and devising and leading on the implementation of an income generation strategy. We are essentially looking for someone who can deliver and robustly evaluate an approved three-year ‘test & learn’ fundraising strategy to generate new income from trusts and foundations, legacies, in-memory giving, major donors and /or challenge events.

In addition you will need to bring experience of managing small teams and budgets, and of working at a senior level ideally within a charity. Finally, you will need to understand the importance of leading an integrated fundraising and communications strategy in pursuit of attracting, engaging and stewarding supporters as well as and building new relationships.
