Senior Communications Officer- Ashden

Who are Ashden?

Ashden are the UK's leading sustainable energy charity. The Ashden awards were established in 2001, to help support and promote sustainable energy projects from around the world.  Ashden's rigorous annual Awards scheme uncovers the best in sustainable energy and showcases their potential to an influential audience at a high-profile ceremony. Uniquely, we continue to work with our winners after they have won to help them scale up their work and share their learning with others.

By giving our winners an established platform Ashden offer policy makers, the media, educators, investors and academics a unique resource of proven examples of sustainable energy in action. Our conferences, reports, photographs, films and detailed case studies create a rich resource of freely accessible information to help us all create a future with sustainable energy for all.

How does the Senior Communications Officer contribute to Ashden?

The successful applicant will be a creative, bold thinker with excellent digital media and story-telling skills to help bring the solutions offered by their winners to an influential, global audience. This is an exciting and stretching role, working to help Ashden achieve their mission. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to work as part of a close-knit team, and take initiative on a forward thinking organisation.

You will produce new content for the Ashden and LESS CO2 website, as well as updating existing content, including writing news pieces and blogs. You will be responsible for increasing social media engagement through regular posting and interaction with sector influencers, as well as coming up with creative campaigns for particular issues and events.

Working at Ashden offers a unique opportunity to understand what's happening at the cutting edge of sustainable energy and international development, and to work with leaders in the sector. The role is based in London, but offers the opportunity to travel to meet existing and potential Ashden winners in the field. You will work closely with past winners to help promote their work, communicating with partners and others in the sector to amplify Ashden's messages, and help to market events and the Awards process.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual with a can-do attitude and positive nature who is full of energy and has an enthusiasm to learn about the sustainable energy world. You will have proven communications skills, in particular across copy, social media and digital.

You will have a keen eye for detail and design, and the ability to turn what is sometimes quite technical information into engaging stories.

You will also be creative, thinking of ideas of how to increase engagement, sharing those ideas and taking an initiative. A degree in a relevant subject is desirable.

The role is based in London, however from time to time you will need to make field visits to the areas where our winners work, across the UK and further afield, particularly in India and Africa so an ability to travel is a must.

How do you apply?

If you feel you have the skills, experience, drive and enthusiasm to join this dynamic and successful charity we would like to hear from you as soon as possible.

Salary is between £32,000- £34,000.

Please submit your CV and cover letter to hannah.whittington@harrishill.co.uk ahead of Monday 17th September.
