Join the Toybox Board of Trustees as the Treasurer

Do you want to use your experience of financial management to help drive and support Toybox’s strategic direction and be part of a movement of people working towards one goal – an end to the injustice of children living and working on the world’s most dangerous streets?

About the role:

Toybox is led by its Board of 7 Trustees, who are responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity. Being a Toybox Trustee is an influential and valuable role and you will make an important contribution to our current work and future direction.

As Treasurer, you will play a key role in supporting Toybox’s Board and Leadership Team to develop and implement the 2020 strategy. You’ll oversee financial, internal control and risk management matters of the charity in line with good practice, our governing document and legal requirements and will report on these to the Board.

We have a Finance and Audit Committee (FAC) with delegated authority from the Board and as the Treasurer, you will chair this committee.

Time Commitment – and our Commitment to You

The role is an important role and requires approximately 3 days a quarter, of which six days would be on fixed dates such as Committee and Board meetings, planned well in advance..

The successful candidate would serve initially for 3 years with the potential to be reappointed for up to a further 3 years after that. This is an unpaid role, but expenses are paid for attendance at meetings and other Trustee activities. Some employers encourage and enable Trusteeship as part of wider career development and corporate social responsibility. We promise to give you a full induction and ongoing development.

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • A demonstrable commitment to Toybox’s aims, values and work is essential.
  • Credibility in your sphere of work and gravitas to help lead a Toybox to deliver sustainable progress towards a bold mission – ending the injustice of children living and working on the streets.
  • Strong inter-personal and relationship-building abilities.
  • An ability to contribute significantly to the wider Board.
  • Understanding of the role of a Trustee and how Trustees can interact with Toybox’s Leadership Team to best effect.
  • Experience of high-level strategy development gained at a Board level or at minimum at Leadership Team level.
  • Strong leadership and chairing skills, ability to motivate staff and volunteers and bring people together.
  • The technical accounting and financial skills necessary to manage multinational budgets; but the experience of having successfully managed in this environment is more important than any particular qualification.
  • Proven experience of financial management in a large international organisation at a senior level is desirable.
  • Experience of overseeing risk management and assurance.

Closing date: 14 October 2018

About Toybox

Toybox is a UK charity with a mission to end the injustice of street children, one of the world’s most vulnerable groups. The United Nations estimates the number of street children around the world to be in the hundreds of millions.

Established in 1992, Guatemala City was the first place Toybox started working. We are still there today, working with children who are living or working on the streets.  Our mission is unchanged from those early days however we are now working across Latin America, Africa and Asia.

About Toybox

"10,000+ children now legally exist because of Toybox"

Toybox is a UK charity with a mission to end the injustice of street children, one of the world’s most vulnerable groups.

For over 30 years, we have been working alongside street children, first in Latin America and now in Asia and Africa. Our core purpose today remains consistent with the reason Toybox was created - to help children marginalised and abused by those who should be protecting them.

We want to thrive and grow as an organisation; to be as cost effective and proficient as possible so that we ensure maximum impact for the children we work alongside.

Why Work For Toybox

We have instilled a dynamic people culture which sets us apart strongly as a valuable employer of choice. We've had the pleasure of receiving testimonials from some of our current team

Gerry Walker (Marketing & Content Manager)

"I love working for an organisation that is quick to take action and tackles issues of inequality head on. I fundamentally believe that every child deserves a childhood and that no child should be written off because they have no permanent place to live"

Nicky Paterson (Head of Philanthropic Giving)

"I feel very blessed to work for such a truly kind and inspiring organisation. Where absolutely everyone is driven by the same passion, to work together to do all we can to get as many children as possible away from living and working on some of the most dangerous streets in the world, and give them real hope for a future of choices and opportunities"

Career Opportunities
