An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Charity Team. 

Manchester Foundation Trust Charity has recently successfully delivered an ambitious investment strategy that has grown fund raised income by 100% over three years.  Now the Charity, which supports nine hospitals across Greater Manchester, including Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, is preparing for the next three years with an even greater ambition.  Part of this ambition is to develop Individual Giving and we are looking for an experienced Individual Giving Manager to lead our Individual Giving Strategy.

The successful candidate must be educated to degree level or equivalent experience with substantial experience working in a charity environment.

Interviews are scheduled to be held on 10 October 2018.

Job Purpose

To develop and manage the Individual Giving Programme in order to maximise income from individuals and to meet ambitious income targets. This will include the development of a comprehensive Individual Giving Strategy and Action Plan with regular analysis of activities in order to ensure continued improvement. Areas of responsibility will include Legacy Fundraising, Regular Giving, the lottery, direct mail campaigns and donor stewardship.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

STRATEGY, BUDGETING AND REPORTING

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive Individual Giving Programme, building on the Charity’s strengths to recruit, retain and upgrade supporters across all Individual Giving activities. Areas of focus include:
  • Regular Giving
  • Lottery
  • Direct Mail
  • Legacies
  • Responsible for the Individual Giving budget, in consultation with the Senior Development Manager.
  • Conduct regular analysis of income and activities using standard key performance indicators and comparisons using industry benchmarks.
  • Conduct regular database analysis to identify prospects and updgrade opportunities.
  • Provide regular monthly progress reports and contribute to monthly Manager Meetings.

CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT

  • Produce campaign schedules and project plans which include all relevant stakeholders.
  • Report on campaign results, providing analysis and narrative, detailing response rates, acquisition costs, development costs, ROI etc.
  • Monitor project costs and outputs against forecast income working towards a good ROI based on industry best practice.
  • Copywriting, proofreading and editing where appropriate.
  • Brief agencies and suppliers, incorporating research and lessons learnt from past campaigns.
  • Write and review data briefs for all individual giving campaigns, including direct mail and lottery.
  • Determine segmentation strategy using regular segment testing.
  • Work with the Database Manager to extract data for appeals and campaigns from the Raiser’s Edge fundraising database.
  • Maintain supplier relationships with regular reviews where appropriate.

DONOR DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop and implement an effective donor development strategy, focusing on strong stewardship and strategic advancement.
  • Develop and implement an effective strategy to recruit and develop committed givers, including encouraging lapsed donors to resume giving and upgrading gifts where appropriate.
  • Monitor the relationship with individual donors, offering opportunities to engage with MFT Charity.
  • Work with the Senior Development Manager to develop and implement a strategy to upgrade Annual Donors to Major Donors, including a specific moves management programme.
  • Serve as the primary contact for and build strong relationships with non-major Individual Donors.
  • Work with the Marcomms team on the development of Individual Giving-related marketing materials.

LEGACY FUNDRAISING

  • In conjunction with Deputy Head of Charities , develop and maintain legacy fundraising strategy and ensure integration with overall fundraising strategy.
  • Develop and implement appropriate legacy marketing materials in conjunction with the Marcomms Team.
  • Develop and implement direct mail for legacy fundraising utilising a wide range of communication channels to a variety of appropriate markets.
  • In liaison with Charities Finance Team, ensure Will writers/executors/solicitors are input into Raiser’s Edge in compliance with GDPR and relevant thank you letters are generated.
  • Research and network with appropriate organisations and individuals (probate solicitors, Will writers) to fulfil objectives.
  • Ensure monthly legacy income reports are received in a timely manner from Charities Finance Team.
  • Organise and run appropriate events conducive to legacy giving: solicitor networking, supporter information seminars.
  • Gain maximum support from third parties such as Will writers, solicitors, accountants, professional bodies by developing appropriate relationship marketing plan.
  •  Plan and coordinate legal advertising activity.

DATA AND LEGISLATION

  • Work with the Database Manager to keep all records fully up-to-date and that the database is structured to meet the charity’s needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of, and ensure that the Individual Giving Programme is fully compliant with, all relevant legislation, including tax and data protection (e.g. GDPR legislation).
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practice to ensure that the Individual Giving Programme remains at the leading edge of data protection.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and interpretation of current legislation to ensure strict ongoing compliance.

OTHER

  • Research and keep abreast of new methodologies and channels, as well as competitor activity and sector trends.
  • Deputise for the Senior Development Manager as needed and appropriate.
  • Train the Development Assistant in Individaul Giving policies and procedures, including correct use of Raiser’s Edge.
  • Assign the Development Assistant tasks related to Individual Giving and supervise their completion.
  • Undertake all other reasonable activity assigned by the Senior Development Manager.
