Head of Communications – Wales – The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver our new strategy, work with courage, pace and passion to make further biodiversity loss socially, politically and economically unacceptable and ensure that nature starts to show signs of recovery by 2030.

We need to influence political decision-making in Wales to ensure action is taken at home and help the UK maximise its impact on the global stage. You will be jointly responsible for developing and delivering all WWF Cymru’s communications activities to substantially grow support for our mission and inspire positive change amongst government, business and other influencers.

You will also take particular responsibility for developing our team’s work on campaigning, growing public support and building a movement for nature. To achieve this, you will need to develop strong working relationships with external stakeholders.

Your remit will include preparing communications and work plans, budgeting and performance measurement. You will maintain high awareness with key audiences, ensuring we communicate effectively with them in both Welsh and English, across a range of platforms, in a clear, consistent and credible manner.

Head of Communications Wales – Requirements

You must have significant experience in campaigning, communications or marketing as well as sound knowledge of the institutions, political structures, culture, media, stakeholders and environment in Wales.

You will have a proven track record of developing and implementing public campaigns to raise awareness and achieve defined advocacy goals. Experience of developing and delivering creative approaches for engaging, mobilising and influencing key audiences is also vital.

You will be a creative thinker who takes a positive approach to problem solving, with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships.

An effective communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, you will also have experience of managing staff

The ability to communicate in both Welsh and English would be an advantage.

WWF believes in a future where people and nature thrive.

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
