Campaigns Officer: Role Description

The Campaigns, Policy and Research directorate at Stonewall is looking for a Campaigns Officer to join our Campaigns team. The role will support the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of campaigns for LGBT equality, focused on empowering a movement of LGBT people and allies to change hearts and minds in their community. This is an exciting and varied opportunity to work as part of an ambitious team.

Reporting to the Campaigns and Community Manager, you will be responsible for managing the production of campaign resources, supporting the delivery of campaign engagement and empowerment events including Stonewall’s presence at Prides, and building and managing relationships with activists and communities. You will co-ordinate internal project groups to ensure that staff and volunteers across Stonewall can contribute to the success of our campaigns.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • To coordinate Stonewall’s presence at 30+ regional Pride events, working with staff from across the organisation to plan, deliver and evaluate these events. This includes managing logistics of the project.
  • To write, produce, distribute, restock and evaluate the use of campaign resources such as briefings, toolkits, posters, badges, and guides.
  • To support stakeholder management and regular communication with campaign contacts
  • To ensure that accurate records of all campaigns contacts and activity are kept on Stonewall’s database.
  • To be a key contact point for campaigners across England, ensuring they have the resources and support to be effective in campaigning in their community.
  • To support the development, promotion and delivery of campaign empowerment training for activists and other community campaign events.
  • To support the development of digital content, including campaign emails, social media posts, webpages and blogs.
  • To support the Campaigns, Policy and Research department with the upkeep of their webpages.
  • To provide logistics support for other teams within the Campaigns, Policy and Research department to ensure the whole directorate runs smoothly – including support with travel and event organisation.
  • To support the implementation of campaign activity – including event logistics and travel, support in integrating campaigning activities across Stonewall, and evaluating impact of campaign activities.
  • To support work to ensure campaigns involve groups who are currently under-represented among our supporter base, e.g. BAME/POC LGBT people, disabled LGBT people, LGBT people of faith.

General Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct the duties of the job description in accordance with the operational policies of Stonewall, including but not limited to the diversity policy, code of conduct, social media policy, data protection policies and other Stonewall policies.
  • Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, Trustees, partner organisations and others.
  • Contribute to the general administration and delivery of all Stonewall’s programmes, events and overall objectives.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required by the role.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge and experience of varied campaigning techniques.
  • Experience of building relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A high standard of written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail, including proven ability to communicate to a range of different audiences.
  • Experience of organising events and/or managing projects.
  • Experiencing of producing engaging and impactful resources.
  • Experience of training and/or empowering others to create change.
  • Experience of using a content management system and understanding of database management (preferred but not essential).
  • Knowledge of issues faced by lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities.
  • A commitment to the aims and values of Stonewall.

Campaigns Officer: Key Terms and Conditions

Place of Work             188 – 192 St John Street, London EC1V 4JY.

Working Week          This is a full-time permanent position, comprising a total working week of 35 hours. The demands of this post require a flexible approach to both timing and duration of the working day, however, you will be expected to work during Stonewall’s core office hours which are Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.

Salary Scale                The salary will be £23,419 rising to £25,615 after a year and is paid retrospectively on the 24th day of each month. This is a Stonewall salary band 6 position.

Annual Leave             25 days annual leave (rising by 1 additional day for each year of service completed by 1st October, up to a maximum of 30 days), 3 additional ‘Stonewall Days’ over Christmas, 1 day’s holiday to be taken on or around your birthday and the eight statutory holidays.

Pension                      Stonewall will contribute up to 9% of salary to the Stonewall pension scheme.

Sick Pay                      Prior to completion of the probationary period, sick pay is at the Chief Executive’s discretion. Thereafter, an employee who is absent from work due to sickness will be paid up to four weeks at full pay and four weeks at half pay in any 12-month period. After two years continuous service, an employee absent from work due to sickness will be paid up to 12 weeks full pay and 12 weeks half pay in any 12-month period.                 

Probation & Notice   The post is subject to a six month probationary period.  During this period, you will be entitled to receive, and are required to give, at least two weeks’ notice of termination, which must be in writing. After successful completion of your probationary period you are entitled to receive, and are required to give, 1  months’ notice of termination, which must be in writing.
