ORIGINAL THINKING REQUIRED FOR THE UK’S ORIGINAL NATIONAL PARK.

Could you grow understanding, enjoyment, love and support of one of the country’s best destination brands - the UK’s first national park?

We’re looking for someone to join us, as a key member of our strategic leadership team, to take forward an exciting and ambitious programme to do just this from a diverse range of audiences - including almost 40,000 residents and 20 annual million visitors.

Our story is a pioneering one. Our role to care for the Park and promote its enjoyment is as important today as it was over 65 years ago when we were designated. Nurturing the place in the 21st century poses new challenges and new opportunities. We are making changes to confidently lead the way for the future. It will take an inspirational, enabling leader to support us in building on our legacy and realising our ambitions.

With experience of leading change in a partnership environment you will drive our programme. You will be skilled at diversifying and growing both audience engagement and income through developing visitor experiences, outreach opportunities and building brand awareness. All of this is within a public sector governance framework, which is developing to enable such a progressive agenda for public support of our work. You will be adept at involving, inspiring and developing staff while enhancing partnership working.

You will have strong business acumen, a track record of successfully leading teams to deliver, willing to get operationally involved, and a flair and spirit of innovation to reach out to strengthen and make new connections with communities and partners.

Company

Our history
The history of the Peak District National Park is closely tied to the history of all Britain's national parks. The Peak District National Park was designated a national park in 1951, making it the UK's first, but the story of Britain's national parks started in the 1880s with the first attempt to introduce a freedom to roam.

Our purposes
The Peak District National Park Authority has been given the task of looking after the national park and it does so to an agenda set out by central government. It works in partnership with other organisations and individuals to deliver the two statutory purposes and duty.

Members
There are 30 members of the National Park Authority. Our members come from a range of backgrounds and offer a wealth of knowledge and experience. What they all share is a passion for the national park.

Staff
The Peak District National Park Authority is a public body made up of two groups of people: members and staff. Staff are sometimes called officers. Approximately 280 staff work for the Peak District National Park Authority.

We employ people who are specialists in ecology, archaeology, property, planning and rangers. We also employ specialist support staff who provide the core infrastructure including finance, IT, communications and human resources.
