Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager (Non-Commercial)

 

Angel, London

Salary: £40k-£48k depending on experience

As the leading independent funder of cancer research globally, at CRUK we partner with like-minded organisations from across the public, private and not for profit sectors to build long-term strategic partnerships that will help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

 

The Strategic Partnerships (Non-Commercial) team build mutually beneficial research collaborations with like-minded non-commercial organisations (i.e. public and not for profit funding agencies and academic institutions) from around the world, accelerating progress in the fight against cancer. Our flexible approach allows us to engage in a wide range of partnership initiatives with a variety of models, from large-scale co-funding of research projects and infrastructure to joint workshops and conferences (see here for examples).

 

Working closely with the Head of Strategic Partnerships and other members of the Research and Innovation leadership team, the Strategic Partnerships Senior Manager takes a leading role in the identification of new potential collaborations that will support the delivery of CRUK's research strategy. This includes leading exploratory meetings with potential partners, negotiating complex partnership agreements and working closely with other members of the team to ensure CRUK continues to maintain a high impact portfolio of strategic research partnerships.

 

In this role as you will provide expertise and lead on activities to secure a range of a range of significant strategic research partnerships by:

 

* Identifying and securing new strategic partnership opportunities with third party non-commercial organisations through well-executed business development strategies, engaging presentations and effective negotiation.

* Building effective and mutually beneficial relationships with identified internal and external stakeholders promoting the work of the Strategic Partnerships team and ensuring high levels of engagement and delivery.

* Working closely with internal stakeholders in the Research and Innovation directorate (including the Commercial Partnerships and research funding teams) to ensure effective communication and alignment of activities.

 

Who we're looking for…

 

* A scientific PhD or equivalent experience preferably with knowledge of the international cancer research funding landscape

* Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with experience of building and managing relationships with a range of senior internal and external stakeholders in the charitable and academic sector and research funding community.

* Proactive, strategic thinker who spots opportunities and can translate these into operational plans

* Excellent communication skills with experience of presenting and pitching to national and international audiences and preparing compelling written strategic proposals and business cases.

* Prior experience of working with legal advisors to lead negotiations on complex partnership agreements.
