Caseworker (Refuge / Vulnerable People) 

Our client opened the world’s first safe house for women and children fleeing domestic violence in Chiswick, West London in 1971. Since then the charity has grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic violence services. On any given day, its national network of services supports over 6,000 women and children. Committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety, our client aims to empower women and children rebuild their lives, free from violence and fear. 

Position: Refuge Worker 
Location: Waltham Forest, London 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week 
Salary: £22,828 to £26,390 per annum

About the role: 

As a refuge worker, you will be responsible for providing high quality practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence and their children living in our client's refuges. 

You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of women and children, and the opportunity to acquire and develop a variety of skills and wide-ranging knowledge. This is one of the few jobs where it can be said that no two days are the same! 

Responsibilities: 

- Ensure the smooth running of the refuge, including the admission of survivors of domestic violence to the refuge 
- Assess and advise on their entitlement to welfare and housing benefits 
- Develop support plans for each resident and aid them to obtain permanent accommodation 

About you: 

The successful candidate will have evidence of strong casework management skills, good written and verbal communication and an understanding of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries. Knowledge and direct experience of providing support to women is essential as is a current understanding of legislation relating to domestic violence including civil / criminal legislation and welfare rights. The ability to work as part of an on-call rota is also essential.
