Senior Communications Officer (Press)

Our client is the UK’s largest provider of specialist services for victims of all forms of gender-based violence (domestic, sexual, so called ‘honour’ violence, trafficking, prostitution, forced marriage, stalking and FGM). Every day they support over 6,000 women and children in their national network of services. These include Independent Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Advocacy services (IDVAs / ISVAs and IGVAs), community outreach, specialist refuge accommodation, sanctuary services and culturally-specific services and the Freephone 24 Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline (run in partnership between the organisation and Women’s Aid). They advise Government and lobby hard to keep violence against women and girls high on the public agenda. Our client runs award-winning prevention and public education campaigns, managing a busy press office and website, and they are an accredited training provider. The organisation gives a voice to the voiceless.

Position: Senior Communications Officer (Press)
Location: London
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Starting salary circa £35,000 per annum

About the role:

Their small communications team covers a wide-ranging remit of work spanning reactive and proactive national and regional press, integrated campaigns, internal communications, the organisation's website, social media, newsletters and service literature. This is a great chance to join this busy team in a new role and make a real impact in reaching out to women and children who experience abuse and bringing about change to end violence against women and girls.

They are looking for an experienced Senior Communications Officer (Press) with excellent writing skills, news judgement and story-telling aptitude. Overseeing a busy press office function, this post will respond to reactive requests, spot tactical opportunities, whilst developing and rolling out a proactive programme of work across national and regional media.

About you:

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within communications and undertaking high-profile media relations with proven results. You will have the ability to strategically prioritise requests and manage a complex workload with competing demands.

The role will involve the production of content for newsletters, social media and the website, ideally including audio-visual materials and graphics.

This is a wide and varied role. No two days are the same at the organisation, but the work of the communications team is interesting and rewarding.
