Senior Health Media Officer

Islington, London

Permanent, full time

Salary: Competitive + excellent benefits

Closing date: 19th August

Are you an innovative and ambitious senior health media communicator with the desire to join us and help us beat cancer?

We are looking for a self-motivated Senior Health Media Officer to join the world's largest charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. You will create media and public interest in the aims of the charity, while deepening the understanding of our health messages, cancer prevention and policy work to help communicate a wide range of issues surrounding the research, causes, treatments and prevention of cancer.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Writing and editing copy on diverse areas including health information, epidemiology, cancer treatments and drug development.
  • Project managing key campaigns and press briefings.
  • Contributing to the development of our press strategy and our vision and goals.

At Cancer Research UK, we work to inspire volunteers, unite the scientific community, educate the public about cancer prevention and tell our story to the government to bring about change. Every day we achieve extraordinary things by being innovative, imaginative and bold in our work.

To take on this role, you…

  • have demonstrable experience of writing and editing copy on a wide range of topics including newly published health-related scientific papers, health campaigns, new statistics and cancer treatments.
  • can interpret scientific papers for public consumption, communicating complex ideas in an engaging and accessible way
  • must have previous experience in a press office - a journalistic background would be an advantage. A science background is desirable but not essential.
  • will have strong skills in placing stories in the media and communicating with researchers combined with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.

Our media team regularly works to tight deadlines and needs to maintain its position as the first port of call for journalists working on cancer stories. Senior Health Media Officers are required to do some on call duty.

If you can do all this and more, you'll enjoy a great career as we work hard to beat cancer sooner.

At CRUK we value diversity and we're committed to creating an inclusive culture where everyone is able to be themselves and to reach their full potential. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures and believe that a diverse workforce will help us to beat cancer sooner.

Please note, from 2019, our head office will be relocating from Islington to a new office space in Stratford, close to the Olympic Park.
