Senior Support Worker (Communicator Guide)
Ref: 42783
Hours: 16 hours per week, part time
Location: Swansea
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: £8.33 per hour

About the role

Communicator Guides offer support to people who have developed sight and hearing impairments, often as they get older; you will support the individual to do the things they want to do - not to do things for them. You’ll be there to act as the eyes and ears of the individual – to make sure that communication is clear and that they are able to move around safely. The support you provide may be in someone’s home, their local community or work setting.

This role will involve supporting a number of people across Swansea to access the community, maintain their independence, access local cafes, hospital appointments, support them with correspondence etc. The individuals you will be supporting use different methods of communication, so you will need to commit to work towards Level 1 and Level 2 in British Sign Language, and be able to communicate with people in clear, spoken English.

You must be able to work flexible hours to suit the service requirements and have the ability to work on your own initiative.

A full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle is an essential requirement for this role.

About you

We would like to hear from you if you have experience of working with vulnerable people, and ideally have experience of working with people with a sensory impairment. A willingness to develop your skills in all communication methods is an essential part of this role. You will need to be able to creatively solve problems that may arise using a person-centred approach and ideally have experience of using person-centred planning tools.

You must be enthusiastic, adaptable and friendly with a commitment to ensuring the individual you work with get the best out of their lives.
