I am working with a leading charity that provide end of life care to people suffering from terminal illness, they have a new requirement for a Head of Major Gifts to cover a maternity period.

Job Purpose:

To lead, motivate and manage a team of fundraisers as well as manage your own small pool of high calibre major donor and trust, building long lasting relationships and securing 6+ figure gifts.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the development of a high value fundraising strategy.

Provide coaching and guidance for your direct reports.

Initiate supportive relationships with senior leadership and other volunteers, working collaboratively to identify potential donors and ensure the most effective approaches are made to secure funds.

Add value to the team activities by sharing your skills and experience of major gifts fundraising

Personally generate income from major donors with a focus on six figure gifts

Identify, research, cultivate and manage a portfolio of qualified trusts and individual prospects and donors across the UK.

Implement tailored solicitation plans for each donor and prospect to increase their involvement with and commitment to the charity.

Work with the Chief Executive and other members of the Senior Leadership team to ensure that they are appropriately briefed and supported when planning and executing approaches to prospective and existing major donors.

Support and manage key elements of the Major Gift Team strategy as required


To be considered you must have the following experience:

Significant experience of Major Gifts Fundraising, specifically with individuals.

Experience of having personally secured gifts of 100k plus

Experience of setting and monitoring budgets and annual plans

Previous line management experience will be essential in this role

Have an understanding of the process of soliciting, cultivating and stewarding potential and actual donors

Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building abilities, with the personality to work collaboratively with co-workers, senior volunteers and donors

Good understanding of biographical profiling and research skills, compliant with GDPR
