About the role:

The Communications Manager will develop an effective communications plan, develop a compelling narrative and set communications standards for the Programme. The plan will include supporting behaviour change, campaigns and social movement, high quality community engagement, events and production of materials.

Responsibilities:

- Develop a consistent and compelling narrative around the benefits of physical activity and sport for use across the whole system
- Develop and implement a range of communications, projects and campaigns to support the delivery of the programme, this will include a wide range of communications methods and channels
- Map risks to reputation and to delivery of plans, ensuring that mitigating action is planned and communicated effectively with team members
- Develop and improve communications and engagement with partners and stakeholders to maximise opportunities for the organisation. This will range from schools and health professionals, to employers, services providers in the public, private and voluntary sectors, and the diversity of communities and citizens
- Project management of campaigns, marketing and communications projects including evaluation of all communications, marketing and campaigns projects for the programme
- Create and develop tools and resources, including commissioning of external agencies, as well as writing, editing and coordinating internal and external materials as needed across a range of channels
- Manage, deploy and coordinate resources effectively, including staffing, financial and ICT requirements
- Ensure that communications and engagement is managed effectively by working with the relevant programme teams and key stakeholders

About you:

- Knowledge of communications, public relations, journalism, community engagement and marketing communications techniques and approaches, project management: acquired through training to relevant degree level
- At least five years of experience, including project management of: communications, public relations and marketing communications techniques and approaches, commissioning external agencies and managing their work, procurement procedures including digital campaigns; external political environment underpinned by theory and experience
- Knowledge and experience of behaviour change campaigns
- Knowledge and experience of stakeholder and public-facing engagement campaigns
- Knowledge and understanding of the health and social care sector and/or population health
- Knowledge and experience of project management; applying project management techniques to planning and delivery
- Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating communications and engagement strategies, actions plans and campaigns internally and externally
- Experience of working collaboratively with multiple organisations and stakeholders
- Experience of working in a politically sensitive environment and demonstrating keen political awareness
- Computer literate; ability to use the required systems/software packages
