The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with the experience and ability to support the roll-out of a major new strand of education activity, putting in place the infrastructure, staffing and other commercial, legal and business strands necessary to facilitate the expansion into online learning.
Working closely with the Pro-Director as academic lead, and under the direction of the Online Learning Programmes Board, the Director will be responsible for overseeing and shaping this new strand of developmental activity. You will lead on all aspects of the establishment of this venture, including developing and refining the business plan, managing all procurement activity, ensuring effective governance, monitoring and reporting, and putting in place an effective team to liaise with staff on contractual, business and legal questions. You'll also lead on ensuring that academic demand is aligned with strategic planning for online provision and with your team's capacity to support expansion.
The successful candidate will understand the opportunities and challenges inherent in providing high-online taught programmes, both credit and non-credit bearing, drawing on the resources of a global university. You'll have a strong track record of leading on the operational and infrastructure aspects of high-profile institutional projects, as well as business acumen and the ability to build excellent working relationships across a complex institution.
The Person
- Sustained professional experience in a business or other senior operational role, OR sustained professional experience of leading the implementation of new academic services within universities, reconciling the needs and priorities of diverse stakeholders
- Evidence of leadership and a proven ability to lead, develop and motivate colleagues
- Experience of advising on, and helping to bring about, change at a strategic level in a higher education institution or similar complex organisation
- Experience of supporting a team to translate strategic targets into activity
- Experience of leading a department or team, of setting collective and individual targets, and monitoring progress against those targets
- Experience of leading the development of business plans for new services or the expansion of existing services
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior staff in other departments with a similar remit to identify new opportunities and implement new activity effectively
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build excellent working relationships and all levels
- Ability to advocate for the work of the centre and act as an ambassador for the service to senior colleagues
