Every summer Dorset Opera Festival, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, runs a chorus summer school at Bryanston. Three performances of two operas are given in a theatre country house setting with professional musicians and soloists. We also run an opera-in-education programme during the year.
Dorset Opera has a loyal audience who fill to capacity the 550 seat auditorium
The Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. The Board is responsible for ensuring the financial health and longevity of the charity.
It is desirable that our directors (“the trustees”) collectively have a crucial mix of skills, knowledge and experience. These skills include:
• Financial management and accounting
• Governance and legislation, particularly affecting charities
• Fundraising and development
• Education and community outreach
• Arts management
• Marketing & public relations
We are specifically looking for a committed, enthusiastic individual with expertise related to financial management and accounting. This is a volunteer position; no remuneration or travel expenses can be offered with this role. All trustees are appointed for a term of three years, up to maximum of three terms unless there are exceptional reasons to suggest otherwise.
We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic about our mission, has a great love for opera and is prepared to make a tangible contribution.
We are looking for someone with an accountancy background, practical experience in preparing annual reports and accounts, and familiarity with on-line accounting systems, and, ideally but not essentially, more than a passing knowledge of the accountancy practices and law affecting charities.
We want our board to be inclusive and representative.
