Arboricultural Officer 

Set in attractive rolling countryside, our client has a great deal to offer people who live and work locally in the area. The towns and villages stand in an area of great natural beauty nestling in the shallow valleys of the many rivers and streams that criss-cross the district. 

Position: Arboricultural Officer 
Location: Based in Hertford 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 37 hours per week 
Salary: Grade 8, £30,506 to £34,703 (inclusive of local weighting)

About the role: 

They are looking to appoint a self-motivated person to join an enthusiastic department focussed upon looking after the environment to a high standard. Their vision is to provide high quality parks and open spaces that will contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community. They aim to manage trees across the district responsibly and effectively, promoting their importance and encouraging good practice. 

Responsibilities: 

- Determining applications for tree work and conservation area notices 
- Providing a professional arboricultural service to the Council 
- Advising on all matters relating to the protection and care of trees 
- Working with colleagues to deliver enforcement action in relation to illegal tree work 
- Taking a proactive role in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the service 

About you: 

- Have a recognised qualification in arboriculture and an excellent working knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations relating to trees and hedgerows 
- Good communication and people skills, as well as the ability to deal with challenging situations using tact and diplomacy 
- Experience of working in a similar arboricultural post in a local authority and be able to manage your own workload efficiently 
- Experience of enforcement in relation to illegal tree work and the collation of evidence and interviews and able to provide advice in respect of subsidence or damage claims against the Council relating to its own tree stock 
- Be competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications 
- Travel across the district is required and you must be able to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings. 

You may have experience of the following: Arboricultural Officer, Arboricultural Consultant, Parks Officer, Landscape Officer, Agricultural, Arboricultural Officer, Park Manager, Conservation Assistant, Tree Surgeon, Botanical Surveyor, Tree Officer, Forestry, Arborist, etc.
