THE MARINE SOCIETY & SEA CADETS

FINANCE OFFICER (Purchase Ledger) – Part Time (3 days a week)

Central London

The Marine Society & Sea Cadets, founded in 1756, is the nation's largest maritime charity, delivering services to professional seafarers and others considering careers at sea. Ashore we run the Sea Cadet Corps, with over 14,000 Sea Cadets aged between 10 and 18, supported by over 8,000 volunteers, in nearly 400 independent Sea Cadet units across the United Kingdom. The charity has net assets of £29M, annual income and expenditure of some £17M and employs around 200 staff in 20 locations across the United Kingdom, with its headquarters in London. An offshore fleet of five vessels, including the charity’s square rigged flagship, is based in Gosport in Hampshire.

We now need a Finance Officer to assist with the maintenance of the charity’s accounting books and records, managing the charity’s accounting receipts and payments and other transactions and performing such other duties within the Finance department as required.  A significant element of the role is to manage the purchase ledger and the Finance e-mail inbox.

The Finance Officer will report into the Financial Controller.

You will have an aptitude for, and experience of, working in a finance department. You will have a good general level of formal education, sound IT proficiency, experience of working in a customer facing role, able to work both as a team member and unsupervised. You will need experience of maintaining records and filing systems, strong decision making skills, data protection awareness, experience of organising your own work and managing deadlines and be prepared to undertake occasional travel. You will either hold or be working towards an accounting qualification.

This is a challenging, rewarding and interesting post in a charity with broad and diverse operations across the United Kingdom and at sea, offering wide scope to develop both the role and your own professional skills.

For more information, please see our website.

Deadline for receipt of applications: 0900hrs, Friday 27 July 2018.

For the Sea Cadets, this means: inspiring and supporting the next generations through nautical adventure so they can realise their potential and grab a better future.

For the Marine Society, this means: Enabling seafarers with the right tools to get to where they want to be through learning and self development.
