A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a People Services Manager within a great charity that cares for families living with terminal illnesses.

As People Services Manager, you will lead, professionally develop and manage a small team who provide the first point of contact for staff, volunteers and their managers on a range of employment, volunteering issues. You will oversee the provision of a full range of employee/volunteer advisory and administration service, which will encompass the whole employee/volunteer journey.

Summary of Primary Functions of the Role:

  • Working and agreeing as a team a framework to prioritise response timescales and level of intervention. In doing so, manage the expectations of all involved.
  • Provide professional advice on employment legislation and maintain Martlets Employment policies and procedures, covering all aspects of performance management, employee relations and wellbeing, which empower and engage staff to perform well and promote excellent behaviours, dignity at work and a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in respect to all contractual terms and conditions of employment and volunteer engagement, including notice periods, allowances, flexible working applications and retirement processes.
  • Lead on a range of projects to enhance the organisation's ability to recruit and retain staff and volunteers, which include pay and reward, recognition, talent management, succession planning, onboarding, Engagement and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Wellbeing. This will be underpinned by a centralised CPD scheme, apprentice roles and a comprehensive education framework and training service, led by the Head of Service, Organisational Development.
  • Guide and support managers with policy advice on performance management, conduct, capability, disciplinary and appraisals.
  • Support and guide those who wish to raise a concern or complaint in line with dignity at work and grievance framework and manage complex bullying, harassment, equality and dignity at work casework and investigations or liaise with external partners to do so.
  • Support and provide guidance with volunteer placements.
