MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets) is a vibrant and growing charity delivering life changing nautical adventure for young people through the Sea Cadets together with personal and professional development opportunities for seafarers with the Marine Society. MSSC (formed in 2004, as a result of a merger) is the governing body of both entities. MSSC employs over 170 staff, have an income of £15m and investments of £13m. We enjoy strong support from the Royal Navy and wider maritime community. Our vision is to be the leading maritime charity for youth development and lifelong learning and we are focussed on improving the outcomes for young people and seafarers. 
  
We now require an experienced Director of Fundraising & Communications, reporting into our Chief Executive, who can set the strategic direction for all fundraising and communications related activity. In this pivotal role, the post holder will also be responsible for developing new income streams, maximising funding targets and PR opportunities.  
  
As a strategic leadership role and as part of the Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for the following: 
 

  • Setting the fundraising and communications direction, whilst driving delivery against agreed targets.
  • Taking the strategic lead for fundraising and communications whilst also having a clear understanding of the detailed day to day work of the department and leading key projects.
  • Communicating MSSC's strategy, direction and vision to stakeholders; marketing MSSC and its work.
  • Overseeing MSSC's relationship with the media ensuring a positive image and high profile for its activities.
  • Delivering well organised and effective events within budget that maximise opportunity, raise profile, profitability and generate funds.
  • Personally lead and deliver projects in line with the vision, strategy and annual plan.
