Our client is a national charity that supports those affected by imprisonment, their children and families.

Position: Family Support Worker
Location: HMP Nottingham
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £17,062.50 per annum

About the role:

As Family Support Worker at HMP Nottingham you will work as one of the Organization's Family team, you will be based primarily in the prison’s visitor centre providing support, advice and guidance to families visiting prisoners, facilitating prison visits and family days and supporting the tea bar service as required.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrable experience and understanding of working with families in a challenging multi-agency environment, ideally involving offenders and / or their families.

You will offer a friendly and welcoming environment within the Visitors Centre, where people visiting the prison, can spend time before and after their visit and assist in the operation of the Centre ensuring the Centre is open at the specified times and support volunteers and other members of the team.

You will have experience of using a data base and to have good IT skills in general as this post is required to book visits using an electronic data base system and by telephone requiring excellent customer care skills.

It is important that you are able to communicate effectively to a range of people including prison staff, other agencies and prisoner’s families.

You will also identify first time visitors and ensure they are provided with enhanced support and reassurance.

Lastly, you will develop an area in the visitors centre for children which may include displays of children’s art work, relevant posters and information, as well as toys and other materials to engage children before and after a visit.

Please note this role will include some weekend working on a 7 day a week rolling rota.

This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period, verification of identity and proven right to work in the UK, satisfactory references from previous employers covering a 3 year period, declaration of any unspent criminal convictions (and where appropriate a satisfactory risk assessment), prison vetting and a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check. Please note that being bankrupt or having County Court Judgements may affect your ability to be successfully vetted to work in a prison.
