External Affairs Advisor – The Role

As an External Affairs Advisor at World Animal Protection UK, you will lead, manage and maximize internal and external stakeholder relationships. This is a unique political engagement position within animal welfare where you will get to work to achieve lasting impact for animals worldwide, while focussing on national debates and actors.

In this challenging and rewarding stakeholder facing role, your strong influencing and communication expertise will help us to move ever closer to a world where animal welfare is put on the global agenda to create positive systemic change in our communities and societies.

Working mainly with the UK Head of Campaigns and the UK Head of Communications, you will input into the development and delivery of our strategic campaigns, identifying and developing opportunities to accelerate them within the British context.

You will play a key stakeholder role in identifying, building and managing relationships with stakeholders across a wide range of audiences in the public fora, media, political, economic and social environments, both at national and regional levels. You will have the confidence and gravitas to act as an effective spokesperson for or our organisation, whenever appropriate.

Keen to take your external affairs advisor career to the next level and improve the lives of animals worldwide? Join us as an External Affairs Advisor.

External Affairs Advisor– Requirements

  • You must be a highly skilled and motivated stakeholder engagement specialist, with a proven track record in developing and delivering engagement approaches to achieve specific outcomes.
  • Experience in understanding global debates and their relevance in local policy production is essential.
  • You will have demonstrable experience and sound understanding of political institutions, particularly in Westminster, where you would ideally have a network of contacts with some interaction with the NGO sector. Similar experience working with other sectors will be acceptable.
  • Your effective communication and influencing skills will be complemented by the ability to meet strategic objectives.
  • You will thrive in working for a mission-led campaigning organisation, confident in championing our cause and ambitions. An effective thought leader, you will have the capacity to communicate direction, motivate others, gain commitment to action and develop mutual co-operation across teams and external stakeholders.
  • A confident networker and relationship builder, you are also comfortable controlling budgets and meeting deadlines.  You will possess first-class analytical and decision-making skills too. You will have a relevant qualification, and a solid understanding of political and socio-economic trends.
  • A detailed knowledge of animal welfare is not essential; however, you will have a natural passion for animal welfare and a strong commitment to the aims and values of World Animal Protection.

Who are we?

We are World Animal Protection.

For over 50 years we have moved the world to protect animals.

We protect animals because we believe a sustainable future for the planet can only be achieved if both animals and people are part of the solution.

We stop the exploitation of wild animals for entertainment and profit. We protect pets and working animals in communities across the globe. We campaign for better farm animal welfare and fight against factory farming. We also help animals when disaster strikes.

Our vision is a world where animals live free from suffering. We are working to help people to see how important animals are to all of us.

We are determined to influence decision makers to put animals on the global agenda and inspire people to change animals’ lives for the better. Today we’re working on projects to end animal suffering by helping governments and communities to protect and care for their animals.
