Programme Manager (Science Divisions) 

Our client is an internationally renowned publisher of high quality chemical science knowledge and the professional body for chemists in the UK, with a thriving international community of over 50,000 members in 125 countries and over 550 staff. As a not-for-profit organisation, they reinvest all of their income to achieve their charitable objectives to support the chemical sciences community and advance chemistry. 

They have strong links with the people teaching and practising chemistry in schools, colleges, universities and industry. They are the biggest non-governmental investor in chemistry education in the UK, they accredit over 95 per cent of chemistry degrees in the UK and Ireland, they support over 300 small and medium sized companies in the chemical sciences and they are a powerful advocate for the chemical sciences at the government level influencing science, education and innovation policy. 

Position: Programme Manager - Science 
Location: Science Park Cambridge (free onsite parking) with UK travel (Commutable from Cambridge North, Milton, Ely, Swavesy, Histon & Impington, Oakington, Fenstanton, St Ives, Cambrideshire, Huntingdon, Newmarket, Saffron Walden, St Neots, Bedford, Hitchin, Stevenage, Bury St Edmunds and surrounding areas) 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 35-hour working week 
Salary: £39,242 to £43,602 per annum plus benefits

About the role: 

As their Programme Manager, Science Divisions, you will play a crucial role in supporting their Science Divisions and the development of elements of their Voice strategy linked to associated scientific communities and areas. You will work closely with members of their Divisions and the wider chemistry community, developing strong relationships with scientists at a variety of levels in universities and companies and also working in partnership with external stakeholders such as funding bodies and sister societies. The role also involves working with colleagues across our client, both within and beyond the directorate. 

About you: 

They are looking for: 

- PhD (or similar) in chemistry or other related sciences or equivalent experience 
- Passion for physical sciences research and innovation and a commitment to advancing the chemical sciences for the benefit of science and humanity 
- Experience of working in a team within a scientific organisation, industry, university or in a government setting to develop and deliver successful programmes and projects 
- Awareness of chemistry-based technologies within the physical sciences and experience in or related to at least one sector 
- Awareness and appreciation of the role of chemistry in advancing the physical sciences and related technologies 
- Understanding of the factors currently influencing the research and innovation environment as well as the needs and concerns of people in the research and innovation community 
- Existing networks or able to develop scientific contacts within the physical sciences community 
- Experience of organising meetings and events 
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences using a range of written and oral communication channels and to influence people across levels and sectors 
- Experience of working in a matrix environment, on complex projects with multiple stakeholders 
- Ability to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadlines 
- Initiative and ability to develop new ideas and approaches
