Public Affairs and Communications Coordinator

Our client is a youth social action charity which challenges 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time voluntary service. As mentors, tutors and role models in schools, they support pupils growing up in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the UK. 

Our client's volunteers are integral to the school day. They encourage pupils both in and out of the classroom to engage with and enjoy learning, while developing their own skills. They also benefit from our client’s leadership development programme delivered by experts from across the education, business and voluntary sectors. 

Our client was first established in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 where it now operates in 27 cities across America, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa. Our client launched in London in 2010 and has since expanded to the West Midlands and Greater Manchester. 

Position: External and Public Affairs Coordinator 
Location: Islington, London, near Angel tube station 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 35 hours per week 
Salary: £18,000 to £21,000 per annum, dependant on experience 
Benefits: 25 days holiday per year plus one additional day per year after two years of employment, capped at a maximum of 28 days. Salary commensurate with the role with up to 5% employer pension contributions. Our client are committed to the professional development and wellbeing of all staff.

About the role: 

Our client is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to the role of External and Public Affairs Coordinator. 

The Communications and Engagement Team is responsible for our client’s reputation with key external stakeholders across numerous areas (digital, government, fundraising, partnerships education and youth). 

As External and Public Affairs Coordinator you will support the External and Public Affairs Lead in furthering the organisation’s Full-Time Social Action Campaign with key audiences. You will be responsible developing and maintaining relationships with political stakeholders through a proactive engagement process. 

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and highly organised with excellent written and oral communication skills. They will be an outgoing individual who would enjoy being a passionate advocate for our client and full-time social action, particularly its impact on volunteers and pupils from some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. 

About you: 

To excel in this role you will have: 
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills 
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills 
- A good understanding of national government and a passion for keeping up with current affairs 
- Demonstrable project management and research skills 
- Project management experience 
- Knowledge and understanding of education and youth policy is desirable 
- Experience of working in a political, parliamentary or public affairs environment at any level is desired 
- Experience of working with / engaging young people would be beneficial 
- A degree level qualification or equivalent by experience in public / social policy, research or politics 
- Competentancies in Google software / Microsoft Office 

You may, but are not required to, have experience in the following settings: Policy, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Parliament, Not For Profit, Third Sector, Charity, etc
