The Gender Equality and Macroeconomics (GEM) Project is aimed at challenging the ways in which macroeconomic policies currently promoted by international financial institutions, undermine gender equality.We are now recruiting a Gender Project Officer to play a key role in supporting this project.

 

The Gender Equality and Macroeconomics (GEM) Project is aimed at challenging the ways in which macroeconomic policies currently promoted by international financial institutions, undermine gender equality.

The Gender Project Officer plays a key role in supporting this project by undertaking research and administration as well as reaching out to and supporting civil society partner organisations.

The post holder will also be given the chance to contribute to the strategic development of the project’s advocacy work.

A key part of this role is to contribute to the writing of briefings and advocacy papers; therefore, the successful applicant must have proven experience of writing these documents, aimed at several target audiences.

The Gender Project Officer will support the GEM Project’s information‐sharing, outreach, publication outputs, coordination and advocacy with civil society partners, therefore to be successful within this role, you must have experience of working in civil society, particularly with women’s rights and feminist groups.

The post holder will also support the project team in a variety of administration and communication tasks, so applicants must have experience in event organisation and database management.

Improving access to education is another facet of its mission. 59 million children, more than half of them girls, were out of school in 2013. ActionAid works with more than 5,000 schools across Africa, Asia and Latin America to help over a millions girls and boys get the free, quality education they are entitled to.

Women’s rights and gender equality informs all of ActionAid’s activities. The charity works with communities against female genital mutilation, gender-based violence and forced early marriage.

ActionAid also campaigns for tax justice, fairer wages and more effective aid which can tackle the roots causes of poverty. It estimates that poorer countries lose around $200 billion a year from tax dodging by companies.

A variety of different roles are available at ActionAid including policy adviser, fundraising offer and HR manager. Employee benefits are plentiful, encompassing the opportunity to develop new skills, a pension scheme, childcare vouchers and free advice services.

ActionAid also supports selected UK employees to travel to host countries in order to gain first-hand experience of its in-country work.
