Job Details

We are looking to appoint a Marketing & Project Officer (maternity cover) to join our small team to help provide marketing support and lead on our projects for older people.

The Sir Simon Milton Foundation is a Westminster based charity that helps to provide opportunities in education and training for the young and combat loneliness and isolation amongst the elderly.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and growing one of our core projects, Silver Sunday. Founded in 2012, to reduce isolation amongst the elderly, its simple purpose is to hold a series of different free events for older people on the first Sunday of every October, which celebrate their contribution to society.

Silver Sunday has gained widespread support and momentum; we are now going national with the objective of matching Mothering Sunday and Fathers’ Day. Last year there were over 750 events throughout the country attended by thousands, but we need to stimulate many more communities/places to put on events.

Our plan is to grow this number significantly and you will be integral to developing a marketing plan – including communications, press, social media, branding and website management – to help truly make Silver Sunday a day in the national calendar. We are also in the early stages of identifying a potential corporate partner to help us expand the programme.

This position will also be responsible for leading on the annual Westminster Tea Dance. Now in its twelfth year, the Tea Dance for 1,000 Westminster residents aged 65+ will again be taking place in the Great Room of Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel in Park Lane.

The Marketing & Project Officer will, in addition, lead on the Foundation’s Christmas Hamper programme. The project provides festive hampers to some of the most disadvantaged older people in Westminster, and last year delivered more than 350 Christmas hampers to the city’s most vulnerable elderly residents and carers.

This is a very exciting opportunity to have a big impact within a small but ambitious charity. As this post is to provide maternity cover for the existing incumbent the applicant should expect to be in post for a minimum of 6 months (subject to extension).

If you are bursting with ideas, and have enthusiasm, solid marketing experience, and a passion for helping older people, we would love to hear from you.

Please demonstrate in your application how your qualifications and experience cover the following key criteria:

  • Marketing experience including print and digital
  • Examples of how you have taken the lead on projects and managed events
  • Your passion for improving the lives of vulnerable older people

Please send your CV and covering letter to Sonja Parfrey, Business Manager, Sir Simon Milton Foundation.

Applications submitted without a covering letter will not be considered.

Company

The Sir Simon Milton Foundation is a Westminster based charity set up in 2012 in memory of Sir Simon Milton. The Foundation aims to get young Londoners into work through training and education and reduce loneliness and isolation among older people.

The Sir Simon Milton Foundation is dedicated to helping Westminster residents to improve their prospects for economic and social well being through the promotion of social inclusion.

The Foundation aims to achieve this by providing support for residents, both young and old, who are socially excluded or are at risk of social exclusion so they can participate and live full lives in our community. In seeking to promote social inclusion we will focus on the following areas:

• Relief of hardship experienced by elderly people – including financial difficulties, loneliness and poor health

• Addressing unemployment – including assistance to find employment and progression into education and training

• Supporting young people to achieve their potential – including initiatives to support physical and educational attainment, provision of advice, guidance and mentoring, and opportunities to promote good citizenship
