About SOHK

The School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) became a registered charity back in 2012 after four years of running as a documentary on Sky Sports. By applying our unique ‘SOHK psychology’ to our coaching and classroom based delivery, we seek to enable all participants, whatever their age, to realise their potential and change their lives for the good. Many of the people we work with are among the most disadvantaged in the UK.

We’re still small, but we’re growing fast. Based in London, SOHK has experienced considerable growth in the last few years, establishing new teams in South Wales and Scotland. Over that time, we have continued to raise awareness of our work and make many new friends in business and rugby communities and so the time is now right to launch our first large scale ‘Friends of SOHK’ campaign, owned and delivered by a highly driven Campaign Co-ordinator.

Reasons to be interested

There are so many!

  • A phenomenal brand that most young charities would love to have as a foundation.
  • Award-winning! We continue to be recognised as a ground breaking organisation that consistently delivers on our objectives
  • We have a proven track record, helping hundreds of disengaged school children and unemployed adults every year.
  • You can be a key part of a growing organisation – SOHK is expanding rapidly, to new areas, with new audiences.
  • There is genuine potential for growth and promotion….
  • Work with some great and energised people.  There is a phenomenal feeling of positivity and drive within the organisation.
  • You don’t have to like rugby… but if you do… there is huge access to some of the current and former superstars within the game.

‘Friends of SOHK’ Campaign Co-ordinator - Job Description

  • In November 2019, the Rugby World Cup (RWC2019) will take place in Japan – this is the second largest international tournament in the world.
  • There are over 2 million people in the UK who are involved in rugby in some way or another: current players, former players, parents, fans, coaches, and many more.
  • SOHK needs to create a regular, month-by-month stream of unrestricted income.

So…

Between August 2018 and the end of the RWC2019, we want to sign up 5000 new regular donors as ‘Friends of SOHK’ who will donate just £3 per month by Direct Debit. We have some innovative and exciting approaches to make this happen.

Core Responsibilities

  • Recruit rugby clubs, businesses and ‘SOHK Club Ambassadors’
  • Ensure that Club Ambassadors are engaged and equipped to sign up ‘Friends of SOHK’
  • Engage with rugby celebrities and support them as they promote the campaign online
  • Own the administration of the campaign, ensuring that the our database is updated and targets are monitored, with regular reporting to our senior leadership team
  • Liaise with relevant sponsors and corporate stakeholders
  • Liaise with our direct marketing partners and monitor results.
  • Create and publish content for newsletters and all social media channels
  • Maximising opportunities to sign up Friends at events, such as conferences, 7s tournaments and events with our corporate partners

What you will be like

  • You must be passionate about making a difference – your work will underpin SOHK’s delivery team in changing lives.
  • You will be winsome and persuasive, able to convince people of the importance of SOHK’s work and the value of supporting it
  • You will be target-driven – the charity needs to consolidate and continue its recent growth, so the ability to overcome barriers with initiative and sheer graft is a must
  • You will be comfortable owning problems and using your judgement to solve them
  • You will have a positive, can-do attitude, with the desire to roll your sleeves up and bring energy, fun and enthusiasm to a small charity’s team
  • You will have a great work ethic and a dedicated team player
  • You will be determined to own the fundraising targets of the campaign

Essential Skills

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to sell the charity and persuade donors and volunteers to invest in it, both verbally and in writing
  • Highly organised and methodical in planning and executing the campaign
  • Strong I.T. skills
  • Comfortable delivering at pace and meeting stretching targets

Location

You will be based at our office in Old Street, London, with the ability to travel to pursue key opportunities.

Benefits

  • £22.5k – £26k gross salary according to experience
  • Pension contribution
  • Leave allowance of 25 days plus statutory holidays
  • Quarterly staff wellbeing days for the whole team
  • Ongoing training and development
