Support Worker (Complex Needs) 

Our client provides care, support and housing in London for people who may be homeless, have a learning disability or a mental health need. Their aim is to provide a safe and secure environment to help people recover and maximise their potential. Our client services place people at the heart of their communities and help them to develop the skills to live independent lives in the way they choose. Our client works with local people in an environment that promotes and embraces diversity and the differences that make people individuals. 

Their customers have often had previous experiences of disadvantage, prejudice and discrimination. They ensure that they work with everyone in a way that respects and promotes choice, privacy and dignity. 

Position: Floating Advanced Support Team Worker 
Location: London 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 40 hours per week 
Salary: £25,000 per annum + £5,000 flexibility allowance 
Benefits: Annual Leave 25 days per annum plus Bank Holidays; pension scheme

About the role: 

You will work as part of a team of elite support workers, with adults in accommodation-based support services with mental health problems, learning disabilities and complex needs. You’ll contribute to the establishing of quality standards and lead on implementing them, whilst acting as a role model for other staff, demonstrating best practice at all times. 

Responsibilities: 

- Offer specialist, recovery focused and person-centred support to customers to develop or improve their life skills, as much as their needs allows so that they can lead as independent and active lives as possible within the community 
- Recognise any changes in physical / mental health / behaviour which may have a negative effect on them and develop strategies to respond 
- Work closely with and support managers in disseminating and implementing agreed best practice guidelines in all areas 
- Work alongside an implementation plan for each project, including setting up new services as required 
- Feedback any observations to improve practice and recognise achievements 
- Lead on follow up from lay, external agency, board members, senior management or team inspections 
- Facilitate training as required 
- Ensure safeguarding protocols are followed 
- Implement good practice in Health and Safety 
- Ensure our clients Quality Management Systems including PSOCC, My Guides, and the day to day project administration paper work is effective and good quality 
- Keep up to date with current good practice and legislation in service delivery, undertaking training as required 

About you: 

- Significant, successful experience of working within a community setting with adults who have complex needs and challenging behaviour, as well as experience of working with people with mental health problems, substance misuse, homelessness or forensic histories 
- Understanding about what high quality services look like and involvement in setting up quality standards and implementing them 
- Understanding of how mental health problems, learning disabilities and complex needs may affect day to day functioning 
- Good IT skills and capacity to adapt easily to new systems 
- Good written and verbal communication skills 
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures 
- Ability to work flexibly at different sites, on a 24 hour rolling shift pattern which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and sleepovers
