Head of Respite and Care - Permanent

Salary c£51,500 plus benefits

Location: Central London with some UK-wide travel

This is a really exciting opportunity to join the Royal Air Force’s leading welfare charity and anyone who cares about delivering person-centred, holistic and effective support and has the right skill sets, should strongly consider applying.  The Fund’s vision is that no member of the RAF Family will ever face adversity alone.  This applies right across the Spectrum of Care, from young to old, seeking to meet their needs as best we can.  The RAF Family (c1.4 million people) supports those who are currently serving through to retired veterans and their partners/widows/widowers, the latter group comprising c75% of the whole Family.  Enabling this work is a key feature of the role.

The Fund celebrates its centenary in 2019 and the Board is determined to support as many as possible within the RAF Family, recognising that many are facing age related challenges. Working alongside other Welfare HoDs the occupant of this new post will drive forward our ambitious plans to have a UK-wide respite service for those who need such support, delivering different solutions for serving personnel and veterans.  In addition, the incumbent will lead the day to day management of all respite and care related cases; they will also manage two significant contracts and our advocacy service. This position plays a key role in the Welfare Management Team and across the Fund.

The role is full-time i.e. 36¼ hours per week with an annual holiday entitlement of 26 days excluding Public Holidays.  The Fund is a modern employer where consistent with our mission.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Paul Hughesdon, Director Welfare and Policy at the RAF Benevolent Fund.  Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to review the Fund’s website and published research – Meeting the Needs of the RAF Family and most recent review.

To apply, please send your CV (3 pages max) together with a covering letter (2 pages max) detailing why you believe you are the most suitable person for this role and how you meet the person specification to Pete Thompson, HR Manager, full details are available on the RAFBF website.

The closing date for applications is 1200hrs on Tuesday 17 July 2018.

Due to the high number of applications expected, only candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified: psychometric testing for these candidates will take place on Wednesday 25 July, when you will also be able to meet the team; final interviews will be held on Thursday 2 August 2018, both at the Fund’s offices.
