The military charity are based in South London and represent the Armed forces.

Description

  • Work as a management team with the Head of PR and other PR Managers to devise a planned and co-ordinated, strategic approach to meet the wider organisational objectives.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the national press office including assessing reputational risk
  • Negotiate with and influence senior journalists on issues to reactively protect and proactively enhance the reputation of the charity. Secure agreement from colleagues across the organisation on lines to take and statements that effectively answer media enquiries.
  • Provide guidance and support to all spokespeople including executive board members prior to and during media interviews.
  • Develop and maintain a solid and effective network of media relationships with national journalists, producers, broadcasters and presenters.
  • Devise, develop, and deliver national media partnerships in support of Public Affairs and Public Policy campaigning, Operations, Fundraising, Volunteering and Membership.
  • Maintain effective stakeholder relations with senior marketing and media professionals in the Ministry of Defence, and other relevant government departments, at the national level.
  • Work with the PR Team to supply a constant stream of varied and relevant ambassadors illustrative of the Charities' work for a variety of uses organisation-wide.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of industry trends and use this knowledge to make recommendations for PR strategy and plans.
  • Work with the Head of PR to provide useful and benchmarked KPI reporting which accurately identifies delivery of objectives and demonstrates value for money.

Profile

- Proven experience of media relations, public relations or journalism

- Experience of devising, formulating and implementing work plans and communications strategies

- Demonstrable experience of line managing and developing staff within a national organisation

- The ability to talk to all levels of journalists and confidently promote stories that will interest them

- Effective negotiating and influencing skills in securing agreement for media plans and buy in from direct reports.

- The ability to present information clearly, accurately and to a range of audiences.
