Job Details

YMCA St Paul's Group (SPG) is a charity and registered housing provider whose mission is to be an inclusive Christian Association transforming communities so that all young people can belong, contribute and thrive. As a member of the wider YMCA Federation, our vision is of places where young people thrive and communities flourish.

It is an exciting time for the Association. In April 2018 we completed the merger of four YMCAs from South West and East London, Slough and West London who came together to form
YMCA St Paul's Group. This new Association has a growing presence across the wider London Metropolitan area.

The Association is the largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond, providing a safe place to stay for around 1,200 residents each night. As well as accommodation, care homes, education and training, the Association is focused on the transformation of communities through its Health & Wellbeing Centres. It also has a wide range of children, youth and family programmes including nurseries, after-school clubs and soft play centres.

We have ambitious plans to reach many more people and communities so it is an exciting time for the Association as we consolidate the newly merged organisation whilst driving forward into the future.

The Association is governed by a Board of Trustees who are looking for an outstanding and experienced Chair to lead the merged organisation going forward. Working closely with the other Trustees, CEO and the Executive Team, the Chair will lead our organisation through its next phase of development ensuring that excellent governance is at its heart.

We are looking for a Chair who can demonstrate a thorough understanding and interest in the Housing and Charity sectors and will ideally have first-hand knowledge of the social care sector in the London area. You will have the skills necessary to lead a Board and support the Executive Team by providing strategic guidance and effective challenge.

Based in London, we are looking for a Chair who can demonstrate a commitment and an ability to embody our Christian values of being inclusive, excellent, aspirational and honest whilst having adequate time to devote to leading this people-based charity.

The role is not remunerated although travel expenses may be claimed.

We value the importance of diversity and positively welcome applications from all members of the community, including those with disabilities.

As our work involves working closely with children and Adults at Risk, all Board members are required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure through the DBS checking service.

The closing date for applications is Friday 15 July 2018.

Please note that if you are shortlisted, interviews will be held 1st August 2018 and will involve an all-day assessment.
