Helpline Advisor (Vulnerable Adults / Children) 

Our client supports people who face disadvantage or discrimination to have a voice that counts. Providing advocacy and user involvement services across England, our client is a growing organisation working with people who are vulnerable or marginalised to raise their voices and have their rights respected. 

Position: Helpline Advisor 
Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: Flexible up to 37.5 hours per week 
Salary: £21,000- 22,500

About the Role: 

The Helpline Advocate will be concerned with the direct provision of technical expertise to strengthen voice, champion rights and change lives of people who may be vulnerable. Helpline Advocates would be managed by the Service Manager and would be responsible for providing a direct service to gain positive outcomes for people along with wider impacts. 

You will be the first point of contact for all enquiries and referrals to the service, being responsible for answering inbound calls, emails, and post and text messages for the helpline. In addition, you will deliver efficient and effective person-centred telephone advocacy, ensuring a consistently high standard is maintained and delivered in an empowering framework. 

About You: 

To be considered for this role, you will have experience of working with people to ensure their rights and their voices are heard. You will have experience of working with people with a range of characteristics that make adults and children vulnerable, such as mental health issues, learning disabilities, frailty, as well as people in stressful circumstances such as bereavement. 

With previous experience in a role that requires outstanding communication skills to achieve excellent results. You will have an understanding of Advocacy and National Best Practice Standards, and The Action for Advocacy Code of Practice. 

You should have the ability to communicate with people who have differing support needs and who may be distressed. You should have good listening skills and be able to show empathy to the people who contact the Helpline. You will be making safeguarding alerts in line with our clients Policy. 

You will also possess strong IT skills, being accurate in your recording have intermediate level of using Word, Excel and confident learner of web and database applications. 

Ideally you will have knowledge of the specialist areas of IMCA / IMHA, Care Act and NHS Complaints Advocacy. 
You will also ideally have experience of delivering advocacy OR You will have experience of giving advice, guidance or information. 

Experience with enquiry handling, including telephone, E mail, text and the use of interpreters, the ability to handle incoming and outgoing communications is essential to the role. 

You may have experience of the following: Helpline Advocate, Charity, Charities, Third Sector, Vulnerable People, Advocate, Advocacy, Customer Service, Telephone Helpline, Support Worker, Social care.
