In this extremely rewarding role, you’ll be working directly with their assistance dogs in training. The role consists of providing structured training for young dogs between 14 and 18 months old in order to provide them with the skills and social behaviour required to become assistance dogs. Canines are carefully matched to their partners’ needs and lifestyle, no matter how challenging.

You will teach their dogs to carry out the everyday tasks that will help give their partners greater independence, such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and fetching help in an emergency. In addition, you’ll ensure the dogs obtain a high standard of obedience training and social skills.

You will also provide instruction, training and education for their partners during their on-site training course, teaching them how to work with their dogs and continue its training. You’ll also help them understand what motivates their particular dog and how to take care of their canine. It is during this two week course that the special bond between dog and partner begins and their trainers are right at the heart of this.
